Indefinite bandh starting mid-night of 29th November on NH- 37 and National Project

Tamenglong, Nov. 28: The joint student organisations has announced indefinite bandh on National Highway- 37 (Imphal Jiribam) road and National Project from mid-night of 29th November 2020 with the ultimatum of 10 days expired and failing to redress the demand of joint student organisations by the state government.

However, the bandh is relaxed for medical, emergencies, PHED, Electricity Department and Security force, stated the joint statement issued by Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization Manipur (RNSOM) general secretary Jeanthui Panmei, All Inpui Students’ Union (AISU) general secretary Muliang Riamroi, Zeme Students Organization Manipur (ZSOM) president Heizerangbe Paul and Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) general secretary Masanbou Thuimai.

The joint student organisations are demanding specialist doctors including medicine specialist doctor, paediatrician, ophthalmologist, orthopaedic surgeon, general surgeon, radiologist, psychiatrist, etc. for Tamenglong district hospital.

In the joint statement they stated that several appealed to the State Govemment of Manipur, Wherein the Joint students body has highlighted the acute shortage of doctors, xray & ultrasound facility, lab technician and other manpower in Tarmenglong district, the Students’ Body has set 10 days of timeline for the Govt, to facilitate all the above mentioned required healthcare facility in the District.

The student’s bodies also demanded to set up a blood bank and a dialysis unit taking into consideration the grave need of the facility in the district.

They said the joint body has also submitted a memorandum to the Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Manipur on 23 Nov. 2020.

“The demand was made after the joint students’ body has inspected the Tamenglong district Hospital and other CHC, PHC under tamenglong and Noney District viz Nungba, Tamel, Khoupum Tousem and Haochong The team also Interacted with the District administration Including Chief medical officer and other medical officers”, it said.

They said that the district has lack in every aspect of medical facilities to be a district hospital, where no specialist doctors of medicine, paediatrician, ophthalmologist, orthopaedic surgeon, general surgeon including radiologist and psychiatrist is available, and in a rather shocking revelation, the Tamenglong district hospital has been functioning without X-ray and ultra-sound for a long time.

“The ultimatum set for 10 days has been expired, the joint students’ body is compelled to call an indefinite bandh of National Project and National Highway 37 from mid-night of 29th November 2020 in a democratic form as an agitation against the Government’s fallure to comply with the demand which is in the larger interest of the public.

The band is relaxed for medical emergencies, PHED, Electricity Department, and Security force. We the joint student’s body appeal to the general public and like-minded civil organization to cooperate and support us until the demand is fulfilled”, the statement added.
