Two killed and 6 injured on Wednesday Supper Market Bazaar Day in Dimapur
The Wednesday Supper Market Bazaar day is normally crowded with local organic vegetables from hill district and nearby states in Dimapur. The weather is fine and everybody busy marketing and selling goods normally until strong wind blowup around 2:30 pm and huge two eucalyptus trees broke from its trunk killing one in the spot and 7 seriously injured.
The victims who met in the incident were 5 men and 3 women, where 4 were vegetable vendors and 4 were customers.
One local woman vendor was declared brought dead by doctors at the hospital.
The two deceased were vegetable vendor, a pregnant women vendor was hit by the tree and declared ‘brought dead’ to the hospital. The deceased, identified as 33-year-old Holika, was a resident of Burma Camp in Dimapur.
Other deceased identified as Vijay, a fruits vendor, approx. 45 years, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Source said that the pregnant sister of the deceased was also reported to be grievously injured.
The video showed that the uprooted eucalyptus trees lining up along the side wall in the Arcade and adjacent to the road above, were decayed and could not withstand the force of the wind and crashed to the ground.
