As part of the month-long celebration of Rashtriya Poshan Maah, the Department of Social Welfare, Peren organized a district-level awareness camp for adolescent girls & women on menstrual hygiene and health at GMS Athibung town on 9th September 2022.

The awareness camp was organized to provide information and education on menstrual hygiene management and prevention of menstrual-related health issues.

In the programme, Dr. Vezokholu Khamo, MO Athibung emphasized the need for sensitization among adolescent girls regarding menstruation as she pointed out that most fathers don’t know about it, and also mothers don’t speak to their daughters about it. She further stated that the silence about menstrual hygiene is deeply ingrained in society and we also have this culture that makes women remain silent about issues affecting them. She maintains that everyone should strive to change the culture of shame and stigma associated with menstruation.

The programme was chaired by Block Coordinator, Ngauphutlakbo, while a vote of thanks was proposed by DPO Peren, I. Tsungrosongla.
