PDS rice for hill people has been siphoned in valley: NSCN (I-M)
TAMENGLONG, Aug. 25: The NSCN/GPRN has alleged that food grains that are meant for the hill people of the state under Public Distribution System (PDS), has been siphoned by some valley people.
A statement issued by Tamenglong and Noney district in-charge, Zeliangrong region kilonser, D Gonmei has said that now time has compelled NSCN (I-M) to venture out together in identifying the hurdles, prejudice and discriminatory barriers.
He allegedly claimed that the actual quantity of PDS rice is Quinton 5750 for the aforementioned three assembly constituencies, but unfortunately 50 percent of the rice quantity could hardly reach the doors of the deserving and legitimate owners till date.
According to the kilonser, after long years of investigation, the truth recently came to light that one Govin Meitei of Langthabal, Chumthang Sanabung under the guise of various valley based underground organisations got involved in illegal transportation of PDS rice which is meant for the community of the hill people.
The person randomly sells the siphoned rice to the businessmen in Imphal and even shared the quantity among the ministers, he alleged. “It is the utmost legal right of every citizen to decide their future and liable to endorse the local firm or enterprise to directly deal so as to bring back our stolen fundamental rights,” said Gonmei.
“Leaders of various CSOS, intellectuals, common people and citizens of the soil are hereby earnestly appealed to extend unflinching support and co-operation towards every possible perspective to bring a clear vision of significant development in all corners and uplift for the betterment of the future generation of the hill people,” he added.
Gonmei appealed to all concerned citizens irrespective of different communities living in the respective assembly constituencies of Tamenglong, Nungba and Tamei to be well aware of the fundamental rights in respect of food security and various developmental projects undertaken in the region.
He also appealed to both brethren of valley and hills to uphold one another in unity to remove the human barricades and bridge the gap between hills and valley for the betterment of future generations.
