Assam Rifles troops recovers contraband items

Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovered contraband items at MVCP Tengnoupal on August 22 in two separate incidents.

At around 09:30 AM, during the routine vehicle checking, a team of Tengnopal Battalion stopped an Echo Van bearing Registration no ML 02 G 0376 (White colour) travelling towards Imphal.

On thorough checking of vehicle, suspicious items were found hidden inside the vehicle. The vehicle was stripped & checked thoroughly and suspected brown sugar in 23 soap cases worth Rs 48 lakhs were found hidden in bonnet of the veh. The vehicle was also carrying 152 packets of Myanmarese medicines.  The vehicle was driven by an individual named Mr Letkhohao Haokip , Age- 35 yrs, S Molcham vill, Churachandpur.

In another incident, at around 02:00 PM, the team of Tengnoupal Battalion stopped an Alto car bearing Registration no WB 20 Z 0716 (grey colour) travelling towards Imphal. On carrying out  checking of the vehicle 18 packets of suspected Brown Sugar worth Rs 45.2 lakhs were found hidden inside the bonnet of the Van. The Van was driven by an individual named Lamkam Baite, Age- 49 yrs, S/O Khupsei Baite , District Headquarter Tuibuong, C’Cpur.

The contraband items were being transported to C’Cpur. The Apprehendees and the recovered items have been handed over to the PS Tengnopal for further investigations.

At another incident at around  09:00 AM , based on specific input,  the team of Tengnoupal Battalion stopped a suspicious  Maruti Eeco Van with registration number WB 02 AD 1637(Silver Colour) driven by Mr Nurul Hasan, Age-30 yrs, S/o Mr. Noor Md of Lilong Chingkham Makha, Thoubal district, Manipur.

On thorough checking of the vehicle, 34 packets of Suspected  Brown Sugar worth Rs. 80 Lakhs  were found concealed  in various  parts in the vehicle.

The detained individual and the recovered items have been handed over to Police Station Moreh for further investigation.
