Union appeal State Government to review Backward Tribe Reservation Policy

Kohima, 21 Dec: Students’ Unions of Chakhesang, Pochury, Sumis of Kiphire and Zeliangrong Nagaland have appealed to the State Government to thoroughly review the existing Backward Tribe Reservation Policy.

The four tribal Unions however stated that if the State Government is not in the position to totally review the existing policy, it will be the best to maintain the present Reservation Status-quo in all the Three-tier of Governmental Exams.

In a representation letter to Nagaland Chief Minister, the Unions stated that it is pertinent for the state government to review the Backward Tribe Reservation Policy periodically to address anomalies and discrepancies with the change of time.

Stating that it does not oppose to any decision of the state government to uplift the conditions of the under privileged tribes, the students’ bodies said, that it will not accept any piece meal solution made by the government without considering the overall ground realities of the other tribes. It said all the backward tribes should be treated with the same yardstick.
