Star campaigners revised guidelines for elections in Nagaland

Kohima, 10th Oct. (DIPR): The Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland has informed that the Election Commission has revised guidelines concerning Star Campaigners for all ongoing and future elections during the period of pandemic COVID-19 as follows:

  1. The maximum limit on the number of star campaigners for recognized National/State political parties shall be 30 in place of 40 and for unrecognized registered political parties it shall be 15 in place of 20 during the period of pandemic.
  2. Accordingly, the period of submission of the list of star campaigners is extended from 7 days to 10 days from the date of notification. Political parties, which have already submitted a list of star campaigners shall resubmit a revised list within the stipulated period.
  3. Request for permission for the campaigning by star campaigners shall be submitted to the district election authorities at least 48 hours before the start of campaign so that all necessary safety measures are put in place by all concerned stakeholders well in time.

Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer issues order with regard to conduct of upcoming bye elections in state

Kohima, 10th Oct: Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer has issued order with regard to the conduct of the upcoming bye elections in 14-Southern Angami-I and 60 Pungro-Kiphire Assembly Constituencies.

The order said whoever commits an offence of booth capturing shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than one year but which may extend to three years and with fine.

It said open declaration of support in favour of a particular candidate or political party by a village, ward, khel, community through public announcement and even through publication in electronic or print media etc violates the above provisions.

The CEO said appropriate legal action shall be initiated against any village or ward or community or group of people or media house, if found violating the order.
