Resumption of Internet service in Manipur
Assam Congress’s Member of Parliament Pradyut Bordoloi raised the issue with the Union minister on the internet shutdown in Manipur.
Manipur Government had suspended mobile internet services across the state for five days in view of tension following torching of a vehicle in Bishnupur district bordering Churachandpur district on August 6 evening amid the economic blockade imposed by All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur (ATSUM).
Bordoloi wrote to Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw questioning the rising incidence of internet shutdowns in India.
“In light of the recent suspension of internet services in Manipur, and the larger trend of internet shutdowns in the country, I have written to the Hon’ble Minister for Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw raising this issue & seeking his intervention,” he tweeted.
The All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has announced an indefinite economic blockade since Friday, leaving hundreds of heavy vehicles ferrying essential commodities stranded on NH-2 in Kangpokpi district.
The ban on mobile internet and mass messaging services, imposed on August 7, was lifted in the afternoon after two days shutdown.
