Govt. of Manipur and People of Manipur are warned to be extremely careful and follow strictly all lockdown and personal hygiene regulations.

Tamenglong district registers highest number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur

With the confirmation of four more COVID-19 positive cases on Monday from two community quarantine centres, the total number of positive cases in Tamenglong has surged to 105, registering the highest positive cases in a district in Manipur. Kangpokpi district follows Tamenglong with 96 COVID-19 positive cases.

The four confirmed positive cases are from Christian Model English Higher Secondary School community quarantine centre and United Builder’s School community quarantine centre.

In view of the impending threat of COVID-19 pandemic in the area, the additional district magistrate Tamenglong has declared the Christian Model English Higher Secondary School community quarantine centre Tamenglong and Tamenglong Higher Secondary School areas as containment zones and free movement, including vehicle, were prohibited with immediate effect.

Any person or organisation found violating any of the containment measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, warned ADM Tamenglong Kajaigai Gangmei in his order.

In the meantime, the district task force on Monday referred as many as 40 COVID-19 positive cases, including a two-year-old child to Imphal.

There are 486 inmates at the community quarantine centres in Tamenglong district headquarters with 243 males and females each.

Despite the shortage of manpower in the health department, those referred positive cases have to be transported through Rengpang to Khoupum via Bishnupur district to Imphal due to occurrence of many landslides along Tamenglong to Imphal road near Kotlen village.

By now, all medical staff, including drivers who are transporting positive cases, are reportedly suffering from physical exhaustion. Sometimes, the drivers have to go down from the vehicle to do the physical work of clearing the mud and stones piled up along Tamenglong-Khongsang road as new cutting for double lane work is in progress.

Most quarantine facility has 1 hall with shared washrooms. Our leaders and elders failed to understand the severity of community spread. We have had several discussions in this group regarding the same a few months ago to setup separate rooms and washrooms, even if it’s made of bamboo/plastic. Let’s hope the officials manage to contain it within the quarantine facility itself and not spread to the public.

Tamenglong has the highest number as of today. So that’s confirmed.Hopefully they are inside the Quarantine Facility. It is unacceptable though. Several months to prepare and all travellers are dump inside the available halls/buildings conveniently instead of making them stay in isolation with separate toilets. We had 1+ month as well to prepare after the community spread in Churachanpur quarantine facility. We can only hope it doesn’t spread outside of the quarantine facility now.
