Transport Ministry extends validity of vehicle documents till December 31, 2020

For the third time in Manipur, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry has extended the validity of essential motor vehicle documents that has expired since February 1, 2020 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Road Transport and Highways Ministry has decided to extend the validity of fitness, permits, licenses, registration or other documents under Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 till December 31, 2020,” an official statement said.

The ministry had earlier issued extension of validity of the documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 on March 30 and later on June 9 this year that the documents were further extended till September 30 in view of the grim COVID-19 situation.

“Taking into consideration the situation still continuing due to the conditions for prevention of the spread of Covid-19 across the country, it is further advised that the validity of all of the above-referred documents whose extension of validity could not or not likely be granted due to lockdown and which had expired since February 1, 2020, or would expire by December 31, 2020, the same may be treated to be valid till December 31, 2020. Enforcement authorities have been advised to treat such documents valid till 31st of December 2020,” the Ministry said.
