Massive landslide Tamenglong road

Heavy rains continue to lash in the hills of Manipur’s Tamenglong district accompany with landslide in various parts in the district. A portion of Imphal-Tamenglong road near Sinam village was blocked on Thursday. Commuters who traveled alerted people through social media to avoid this road for the day to prevent any untoward incidents.

Improving of road connectivity and developmental works activities in the district with various projects is moving a snail’s pace. Tamenglong is known for its rich biodiversity and beautiful mountainous landscape, remains cool and green throughout the year. Yet, it continues to reel under total blackout for long days and often remains totally cut off from the rest of the world no matter what party or government is in the chair in the state or centre.

Travelling in Tamenglong district remains difficult and risky owing to the rough terrain made worse by the weather condition. In fact, the roads in Tamenglong are considered most dangerous in Manipur. Road connecting villages and town to Tamenglong or from state capital Imphal to Tamenglong district headquarter pose danger to travelers. With the unpredictable climate condition and inclement weather, the road condition is worsened by the incomplete road widening work launched as a part of development projects at the various places in the district.

The prolonged road expansion work cutting throughout the town is causing intolerable inconveniences and health hazards to the people besides inter-villages and town roads. The under-construction road is becoming life-threatening not only the commuters but several villages living on the roadside.
