NPCC demands resumption of general health services in Nagaland

Amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, NPCC has demanded that the state government hospitals should resume normal health services. In a statement, NPCC president K Therie said 10 COVID-19 patients were reported to have died in the State but other patients are dying on a daily basis. He pointed that the situation is worsening much more than COVID-19 because of delay in prevention and treatment for other ailments.

Therie said the entire Government Hospitals need not be used for COVID-19 but maintain separate isolation wards for them as is in the case of TB. He said that declaring government hospitals as COVID-19 Hospitals has deprived the people of free medical services even as the State and Central governments are spending huge funds to provide free medical care.

Expressing that it is not possible for all poor people to afford treatments in private hospitals, he said even for minor surgery, the bills surge from 30 thousand to lakhs of rupees. The NPCC president also demanded that the agreed guidelines on Ayushman Bharat should be made public and if any empanelled hospital is found violating the norms should be removed from empanelment. Therie, further, asked the government to control the prices of medicines, surgery and other health services.
