Two days Naga Solidarity Walk 2022
The Naga Solidarity Walk which started at Kohima, capital of Nagaland on 28th July 2022 had reached the final destination at Senapati in Manipur on July 29, 2022.
This walk was organized by Global Naga Forum (GNF) on the theme “One People, One Destiny” which flagged off after a brief programme at Lerie, Kohima.
The two-days walk would culminate at Senapati Town in Manipur on Friday afternoon covering a distance of 81 km with people from all the Naga inhabited areas from Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Arunachal and Myanmar are expected to converge for a reception.
Speaking at the flag off, GNF advisor, Dr Visier Sanyü, said Naga family was deeply divided, but there was a time for everything—time to love and to cry—and that this was the right time for Nagas to come together to build “our” nation as one people for one destiny.
He said that in the past, Naga ancestors fought to defend the land with guns but violence has an expiry date and that period is gone, adding that “today we want to fight for our people with our heart and love.”
Dr Sanyü said the Solidarity Walk was aimed at bringing love to replace the hate, harbour unity where there were divisions and that today the people want to fight their heart and love.
He said that through the walk the world would come to know that Nagas were one and would go the distance to do the right thing for themselves at the same time to unite Nagas as one and to defend the land.
The flag off programme was chaired by co-convenor of the Walk Azo Wetsah while a prayer was pronounced by New Life Church pastor, Azahto Naga.
Meanwhile, during the lunch time at Viswema Baptist Church, GNF member Vichütuolie Mere, said the Walk was for the Naga cause. Stating that the walk was not being held for the first time, he said AZ Phizo initiated the solidarity walk about 70 years ago.
Mere said the walk was for everyone and was an indication that Nagas were one. “Our intention is clear and this walk is solely to bring the Nagas together,” he said.
Meanwhile, on reaching Mao Gate at around 1 p.m., the volunteers were given a warm welcome. After a mass prayer, the volunteers resumed the Walk and reached Maram at around 5:30 p.m. where they put up for the night and reached the final destination Senapati Town today in the afternoon.
