Awareness program on elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV at Tamenglong

TAMENGLONG, Dec. 09: District AIDS Prevention and Control unit Tamenglong on Tuesday organised awareness program on elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV at district hospital Duigailong Tamenglong.

Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong Dr Chambo Gonmei attended as chief guest. District AIDS Control Officer Tamenglong and now Chief Medical Officer Noney Dr Majachunglu Gracy attended as president of the function.

In her presidential speech, Dr Majachunglu Gracy informed the mammoth gathering that as many as 20 persons are newly detected with HIV/AIDS within January to last Octerber out of which three persons were pregnant mothers.

“The good news is that at least 21 HIV/AIDS mothers gave birth to child this year and all the children were negative. This is because of the fact that HIV/AIDS patients took ART regularly”, Dr Majachunglu Gracy said.

She also informed that at least 10 returnees from outside the state have registered HIV/AIDS positive during pandemic covid-19 from March till today.

She also urged all women of Tamenglong that all pregnant mothers have to under go HIV/AIDS test and give cooperation to health workers.

Dr Majachunglu Gracy also informed that any person having doubt about HIV/AIDS may come to the two counselling centres at district hospital Tamenglong. The two centres are Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) and Prevention of Parents to Child Transmission (PPTC).

In his chief guest speech, CMO Tamenglong Dr Chambo Gonmei said that most of the root cause of HIV/AIDS transmission is through multiple sex.

In order to build free HIV/AIDS soceity the married man and woman should faithful to each other and those young boys and girls should be sincere and live holistic life, he said.
