Newly married Couple files separate Nomination papers in Lilong AC

Imphal, Oct. 20th: On the last day of the filing of nomination papers for the by-poll to be conducted in five Assembly constituencies on November 7, eight candidates submitted their nomination papers to their respective Returning officers on Tuesday.

In 30-Lilong Assembly constituency, five candidates filed their nomination papers to the Returning Officer Suleiman Daulat khan.

In a rare case, a newly married couple filed separate nomination papers to the RO to contest the by-poll from 30-Lilong AC as independent candidates. The couple candidates are Y. Antas Khan and his newly married wife Wangmayum Reshma. Y. Antas Khan submitted his nomination paper to the RO on Tuesday morning at about 10.30 AM while his wife submitted her nomination paper as independent candidate in the afternoon.

According to a source, Reshma is likely to withdraw her nomination paper.

Other candidates who submitted nomination papers to the Returning Officer, 30-Lilong AC are ex-MLA Md. Abdul Nasir (Independent), Md Azizul Haque Khan (INC), Md. Abdul Zabar Khan (Independent). ex-MLA Md. Abdul Nasir, Y. Antas Khan and Md Azizul Haque Khan of INC submitted multiple sets of nomination papers to the RO.

Md Azizul Haque Khan (INC), Md Abdul Zabar Khan (Independent), Y. Antas Khan and Reshma personally came to RO Office to file their nomination papers. Ex-MLA Md. Abdul Nasir, who resigned from MLA post to save BJP coalition, had earlier submitted one nomination paper to RO on Monday.

In 34-Wangjing-Tentha AC, ex-MLA MLA Paonam Brojen, a main contender in the AC, submitted his nomination paper as a BJP candidate to the concerned RO Sorokhaibam Imosana. He personally came to the RO office to submit his nomination paper. He filed only one paper. Till date, three candidates including ex-MLA Paonam Brojen have filed nomination papers.

On Monday, ex-minister Moirangthem Hemanta of INC and former IPS officer Sarangthem Manaobi (Independent) filed their nomination papers.

In 22-Wangoi AC, Moirangthem Totomshana alias Nongshaba of Heirok part-2 filed his nomination paper to the Returning officer on Tuesday to contest the by-poll as independent candidate.

For this AC, incumbent minister Oinam Lukhoi of BJP, Salam Joy of INC and Kh Loken of NPP had earlier tendered nomination papers.

In 60-Singhat AC, Ginsuanhau of BJP tendered his nomination paper to RO Thangboi Gangte.

Scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by the aspirants will be conducted on Wednesday and the lst date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed on October 23.
