Kohima, 25th Dec (ANK): Christmas was celebrated across Nagaland with religious fervour and joy with many churches holding live online Christmas services due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The midnight services welcoming the birth of Jesus on Christmas Eve was limited to lesser congregations in Churches following the COVID-19 protocols in the Christian majority state. In the state capital Kohima, many Churches cancelled the main celebrations with masses in Church premises and conducted live online Christmas services while some held special mass in the Churches in phases.

Special prayers to overcome COVID-19 marked the celebrations. Moreover, unlike the previous years where Christmas feast used to be part of the celebration, Churches avoided it because of the pandemic. Houses, commercial buildings, churches and streets have been lit with decorative lights in the state for the Christmas, which would continue till New Year 2021 celebrations.
