31 more test positive at UBS quarantine

TAMENGLONG, June 20: Just after 29 inmates were tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, another 31 inmates were again tested positive on Saturday from the same community quarantine centre at United Builder’s School, Tamenglong.

The quarantine centre currently houses 130 inmates of which 60 inmates were tested positive for COVID-19. The remaining 70 inmates were in shock and going through fear as their test results were yet to be declared.

With the detection of 31 new positive cases, Tamenglong district now has 93 COVID-19 positive cases. In all 31 new positive cases, 8 inmates are females and 23 are male inmates including a two year or child.

It is reported that as the numbers of positive cases are increasing in Manipur, all the COVID-19 positive cases could no longer be accommodated in Imphal.
The district task force is reportedly in a dilemma on where to keep the COVID-19 positive cases and treatment. Another challenge faced by the district task force is that a massive landslide has blocked the TamenglongImphal road under NH-37 near Sinam village.

As such, the district task force has planned to separate those COVID-19 positive inmates from UBS quarantine centre to COVID-19 care centre at Tamenglong high Secondary school.

In view of the impending threat of COVID-19 pandemic in the area, the additional district magistrate Tamenglong has declared the United Builders School community quarantine centre Tamenglong as a containment zone and free movement including vehicles were prohibited with immediate effect.

Any person or organisation found violating any of the containment measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code 1860, warned ADM Tamenglong Kajaigai Gangmei in his order.

In the meantime, Indian Medical Association (IMA) Manipur State Branch and Rongmei Women Organisation (Rongmei Luh Phuam) Assam, Manipur and Nagaland have strongly condemned the assault on the lady doctor who is on her duty amid COVID-19 pandemic.
