As I read through this chapter, I couldn’t help thinking about Jesus our High Priest…
The priests were restricted to mourning for immediate family alone. [Lev 21:1-5]
✝ Jesus our High Priest wept for Lazarus who was only a friend. [Jn 11:35]
The priests were defiled if they married a woman who was not a virgin. [Lev 21:7]
✝ Jesus our High Priest brought us into union with Him though we were defiled sinners. His righteousness covers us and makes us righteous too. [1 Cor 6:15-17, 2 Cor 5:21]
The high priest could not touch any dead person, not even his parents. [Lev 21:10-11]
✝ Jesus our High Priest touched Jairus’s daughter when she was dead and raised her to life. We were spiritually dead in our sins & trespasses, and His touch raises us up from death to life. [Mk 5:41, Eph 2:5-6]
The high priest was consecrated to God, and had to abide/remain in the sanctuary at all times. [Lev 21: 12]
✝ Jesus our High Priest left the perfect ‘Tabernacle’ Heaven to come and rescue us so that we could abide in His love for all eternity. [Jn 1:1&14, Phi 2:5-7, Jn 15:9]
Every person who served God in the Tabernacle had to be physically clean & perfect. [Lev 16-23]
✝ Jesus our High Priest is COMPLETE in every way. His is the perfection of the beauty of holiness. We come to Him broken, and in union with Him, we are made complete. [Col 2:9-10]
The priests had to offer sacrifices to offer for their own sinfulness.
✝ Jesus our High Priest IS sinless and therefore could BE the perfect once & for all sacrifice for the sins of ALL of humanity. [Heb 10:11-2, 1 Jn 2:2]
The high priest could enter the Holy of Holies only once a year.
✝ Jesus our High Priest is seated at the right hand of God the Father as our Friend, as our Mediator. He is the Anchor for our Soul. We can come with confidence to God in the Name of Jesus, through Him, because He ever lives to make intercession for us. He is our Hope of Glory. [Rf Rom 8:34, Heb 6:18-20, Heb 7:24-5, 1 Tim 2:5-6] ✝ Because He dwells in our hearts by faith, OUR HEARTS are now the Holy of Holies… the place where continuous worship to God takes place. [Rf Rom 8:9-11, 1 Cor 3:16]
Hallelujah! Thank You Father for revealing Your love to us, and open the door of Your heart to us.. Thank You Jesus for paying the debt I could not hope to pay. Because YOU live, death has lost its grip on me. Thank You for being my Faithful High Priest, Friend & Living Hope of eternal glory. Amen.
Leviticus: 20- 24
* Simple thoughts for deeper meditation
Leviticus: 20:26 "You shall be holy to me, for l the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be
⚡ Our God is a Holy God. In a sense, it is the core of the book of Leviticus. We see the word Holy or Holiness about 152 times
in this book. How can we define the word Holy when it relates to God? "Exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one, perfect in goodness and righteousness. So He is worthy of our worship. Isaiah saw God sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, in heaven. The Seraphims worshipped Him saying, HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, is the LORD of hosts, the whole earth is full of His glory.. They had six wings.
They covered their face with two wings, and their feet with two, and with two they flew. They wanted that Isaiah should see only the face of the Holy God, not their face or feet. So they covered it. When Isaiah saw God in His full Glory, he became conscious of his uncleanliness. If we measure our holiness by those around us, it just lulls us, into thinking, we are living a very holy life and it will lead us into a complacence. So an encounter with God, like Isaiah, is essential to have a sense of His uncomparable Holines and our lowliness. It will give us an acknowledgment of our inadequacy. Finally He will cleanse us with fire to go out with His mission.
For every other things there are limitations. But for Holiness, there is none. The door of Holiness is opened for anybody, at any time, at any place A Church in Kerala has an Emblem, with Lotus flower as one of the symbols. Lotus live in water where mud is predominant. But it's leaves will float over the water, and the stalk holds the beautiful, aromatic flower up towards the sun without having any touch with the mud. We are living in a world where moral degradation and uncleanliness are rampant.
But we need to strive for a Holy life as our heavenly Father is Holy. Let that must be our asset by reading the book of Leviticus through this programme!
