But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light 1 Peter 2:9
As I was reading the first passage- the one in Exodus, addressed to the Israelites I was reminded of very similar terminology in 1 Peter:2:9 which was addressed to believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.
They are very similar in wording. Let's compare the phrases used:
To the Israelites
Treasured possession: The Lord promised the Israelites that if they obeyed Him, they would be considered as a treasured possession out of all the nations around.
A kingdom of Priests : God's promise to the Israelites.
A Holy Nation : Yes, the Jews were considered as a people set apart. Holy unto God. Yet they were not able to live up to that high calling.
To Believers in Christ : Chosen generation: To us, as believers, we are called a chosen generation! Yes, we are chosen...for what? For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.( Eph 2:10)
A Royal Priesthood: That is a noble label indeed. Do we know who we are? We are sons and daughters of the King of Kings...we are of royalty most high...because He has adopted us as sons and daughters...beloved children of the Most High so that we want for nothing. Our Heavenlly Father is looking out for us. Not only are we royal but this passage calls us priests...We are called to make God known to others. To introduce others to the Heavenly King. In the past this epithet of priests was limited to the Jews but it is now our right, as children of the Living God!
A Holy Nation
We as believers are called to be holy into the Lord.
Unlike for the Jews, we have received a Helper, the Holy Spirit, who helps us in all our weaknesses. Also, we know that in and of ourselves we cannot be holy but the blood of Jesus Christ covers us and cleanses us , making us holy and acceptable in God's sight. How beautiful that is!
His Own Special People
Finally we are called His Own Special People! What a delight to be special to the God of the universe.
Dear Ones, if we ever feel low and not up to much, not amounting to anything, let us remind ourselves that in God's eyes, we are His special people! Each one of us is His favourite. He loves is with an amazing, everlasting Love.
And all this so that we might proclaim the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvellous light!!!
If we truly understand how blessed we are in Christ Jesus , we will not be able to stop ourselves from praising Him at all times!
Lord: Open our eyes to understand just who we are in You.
Consecrated & Set Apart
And you shall kill the ram and take part of its blood and put it on the tip of the right ear of Aaron and on the tips of the right ears of his sons, and on the thumbs of their right hands and on the great toes of their right feet, and throw the rest of the blood against the sides of the altar. Ex 29:19-20
The right-hand side symbolises the strength of a person. By applying the blood to the right ear, thumb & toe, God was imprinting upon the hearts of the High Priest [ Aaron] and the other priests that their strengths were consecrated to HIM.
Right Ear: From this point onwards, their ears were cleansed and set apart to hear God’s voice. They were to seek instruction from His mouth. [Rf Mal 2:7]
Are my ears consecrated to hear God’s voice? Whose voice am I listening to?
Right Thumb: The thumb is essential for us to be able to gain a grip on anything. The blood on their right thumb reminded them that from now on, their grasp was cleansed and set apart for God. No longer would they hold onto the things of the world, but they would hold onto God instead and serve Him instead. [Rf Josh 23:8, Acts 11:23]
What am I holding onto? Whom am I serving?
Right Big Toe: The Big Toe is enables us to balance & walk confidently. The blood symbolically declared that they would no longer walk in their own ways independent of God, nor would they walk in their own strength. From this point on, they were to lean on God, and walk in agreement with HIM in HIS ways. [Rf Ps 37:24, Is 42:1, Zec 10:12, Is 52:7]
What is the source of my confidence? Whom am I leaning on? Which direction am I going… God’s/mine?
There can’t be a more appropriate prayer than the hymn written by Frances Havergal:
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in endless praise.
Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice and let me sing always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use every power as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love; my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee
Take a Break with Jesus
Day 17, 240 Days Bible Reading Tuesday, 5.11.19.✒
God's people were carried by name on the Shoulder and on the Bosom of the High Priest...Exodus 28:9-21
The Old Testament comes alive when you can see the Thread of Jesus running through the Fabrics of the Written Word. The whole Tabernacle speaks of Jesus, so does the Ark, the Furnitures, the Curtains and the Garments.
Every colours of the fabric, decorations, gemstones, embroidery, and other materials in the priestly garment worn by Aaron is a Type and Shadow of Jesus our High Priest who came to stand between God and His People.
From the outside the Tabernacle with the coverings of the animal hides looked uninteresting but on the inside of the Tabernacle everything was beautiful and sparkling and shining with gold.
Our Christian Life is something like that, on the outside we may not be attractive as Christians, but our innermost being is hidden in Christ and is made beautiful by His Presence on the inside of us.
What is on the inside of us should flow outside. We might not all be beautiful on the outside for others but our inner beauty will draw others to Jesus.
The garments ordered to be made for Aaron and his sons, Exodus 28:41, are said to have been for glory and for beauty. The glory reflects the the high office of the priest before the people and the rest of the nations. The beauty reflects the richness and beauty of the sanctuary where they were to minister. God, our heavenly dressmaker, has been dressing people on various occasion since the Garden of Eden, when he dressed Adam and Eve's nakedness.
God gave an elaborate exquisite design for garments for the High Priest and Priests. It was so detailed. Almost the entire Chapter of Exodus 28 is about the attire for the High Priest. Aaron and his sons, their selection for this office is mentioned in Exodus 28:1.Their investiture and consecration briefly mentioned in Exodus 28:41. Otherwise the whole chapter is concerned with the Holy Garment for Aaron is first prescribed, Exodus 28:4-39.
Pay attention to the minute details about the neglect of the inner wear by the High Priest and the Priests, which can be costly and deadly. They can drop dead if they were careless with their inner wear, which should be linen to absorb their sweat, Exodus 28: 42-43.
I want to zero in on the the gemstones on two items of the holy garment the ephod and the breastplate.
The Priestly Garments had a Ephod and a Breastplate both fastened to each other. There were beautiful sparkling gemstones attached to both the Ephod and the Breastplate.
The Ephod had six gemstones on each shoulders, and engraved on it were the names of the 12 Tribes, six names on each shoulders, Exodus 28: 6-14. The Breastplate had 12 Stones and each stone was engraved with the names of the 12 Tribes, Exodus 28:15-30.
When we Fast Forward to the New Testament we know that Jesus is our High Priest Interceding for us. He carries us on His Shoulder and in His Heart. God has engraved our names in His Hands, Isaiah 49:16.
This is a Picture of the Loving Father and His Loving Son. Jesus our Great Shepherd will carry us on His Shoulder when we are lost and weary, Luke 15:5 and Jesus our High Priest will carry us in His bosom, when we are worried.
When we are IN Christ Jesus, Jesus Our High Priest Who is Seated at the Right Hand of the Father will carry us on His Shoulder when we are too weak even to utter a word in prayer. And He will carry us in His Heart with so much Intimacy, when we are Trembling on our knees.
Child of God, _Remember that, God requires His people to worship him "in the beauty of holiness", Psalms 29:2, Psalms 96:9, 1 Chronicles 16:29. He ordains for his priests rich and splendid dresses "for glory and for beauty."
We are His Royal Priest and He will clothe us in His splendour and beauty to worship Him in Holiness. He has given us the garment of praise, the garment of salvation and the robes of righteousness, Isaiah 61:3 &10
But, to experience such intimacy we got to make Him Our Lord and Saviour so that He can be Our High Priest, Hebrews 9:11-15.
Who can Stand Against us when we worship with the High Priest, who went through the Brazen Altar, in our Belly?...Amen
