Day 96 of 240 Days Bible Reading Group 3947 Nehemiah 08 to 11

Neh 8:10 The joy of the lord is your strength

Nehemiah and his fellow citizens had finished rebuilding the protective wall around Jerusalem. Then everyone gathered to hear Ezra, the priest read the law.He read aloud and everyone lifted their hands and shouted Amen. As crowds listened to God' s word, they wept. They had fallen so short of God's standards, they were pierced in their heart., that they wept..

But the leaders told the people not to weep but to celebrate with the feast of rich foods.Nehemiah also asked them to share food with people who have nothing.so that they may rejoice with you and bless you. As that was an holy day, there should be joy and cheerfulness. They should put on garments of praise instead of spirit of heaviness. Let the joy be holy and spiritual, celebrating the goodness of the lord.

Lord,we thank you that we are able to study your word through 240 days bible study and thank you for the joy and strength we get while studying Your word.Thank you lord, when we are week ,reading Your word keeps us going.
Help us to spend more time to read, study, and meditate on your word.and find joy and strength in your presence In Jesus Name Amen

I AM THE CREATOR OF WISDOM AND JUSTICE

 Ezra Reads the Law

They all assembled in Jerusalem,

They asked Ezra, the priest and scholar of the Law which the LORD had given Israel through Moses, to get the book of the Law.

As Ezra stood there on the platform high above the people, they all kept their eyes fixed on him. As soon as he opened the book, they all stood up.

Ezra said, *Praise the LORD, the great God! All the people raised their arms in the air and* answered, *Amen! Amen! They knelt in worship, with their faces to the ground.*

They gave an oral translation of God's Law and explained it so that the people could understand it.

When the people heard what the Law required, they were so moved that they began to cry. So Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra, the priest and scholar of the Law, and the Levites who were explaining the Law told all the people, *This day is holy to the LORD your God, so you are not to mourn or cry.

Now go home and have a feast. Share your food and wine with those who don't have enough. Today is holy to our Lord, so don't be sad. The joy that the LORD gives you will make you strong.*

So all the people went home and shared what they had with others, because they understood what had been read them

⏳ The People Confess Their Sins the people of Israel gathered to fast in order to show sorrow for their sins. They had already separated themselves from all foreigners.

They wore sackcloth and put dust on their heads as signs of grief. Then they stood and began to confess the sins that they and their ancestors had committed.

They prayed aloud to the LORD their God.

And then the people of Israel prayed this prayer: *You, LORD, you alone are LORD; you made the heavens and the stars of the sky. You made land and sea and everything in them; you gave life to all. The heavenly powers bow down and worship you.

You, LORD God, chose Abram and led him out of Ur in Babylonia; you changed his name to Abraham.

You found that he was faithful to you, and you made a covenant with him.

you heard their call for help at the Red Sea.

You won then the fame you still have today.

Through the sea you made a path for your people and led them through on dry ground. Those who pursued them drowned in deep water, as a stone sinks in the raging sea.

At Mount Sinai you came down from heaven; you spoke to your people and gave them good laws and sound teachings.

When they were hungry, you gave them bread from heaven, and water from a rock when they were thirsty. You told them to take control of the land which you had promised to give them.

But our ancestors grew proud and stubborn and refused to obey your commands.

Your mercy is great; you did not forsake them.

They insulted you time after time,

💫 So be fair with Innocent

 🍇Simple thoughts for
        💫deeper meditation.

Nehemiah: 8: 3  " ...... And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law "

The Jewish exiles returned home after years of slavery in Babylon to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem led by Nehemiah. As they struggled to finish the works, they faced opposition from enemies, famine, and their own sin. Amid their trouble they turned to God's word." All the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law" They were surprised at what they learned. When the priests read from the Book of the law of God, the people were moved to tears. (Nehemiah: 8: 9) But they also found comfort. Nehemiah told them" Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength"  ( Nehemiah: 8: 10 )

It is good to examine whether your mind is wandering when you read the Scripture or it is fully concentrated on the versesThe receiving of the Word consists of two parts:
attention of the mind and
intention of the will.
Whatever the appearances, our trust must be in the Scriptures which are God's written word.

⚡The Bible enables us to understand life.
⚡ The Bible helps us see ourselves as we really are, and also helps us see how much God loves us.
⚡The Scripture encourages us to think things through.
How does God guide us? Through circumstances, through wisdom, through the fellowship of Christians, through prayer, but mainly through the Scriptures.
⚡ God's word is alive with meaning, and when you read it, something will happen to you, " for the word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two- edged sword" (Heb: 4 : 12 )

🌈 Have you caught the vision of what God wants to achieve through your own individual life and witness on this earth? If not, take the Bible and be faithful in reading His words.

GOD 'S PEOPLE MUST HAVE THE WILLINGNESS TO LIVE WHEREVER GOD WANTS THEM TO LIVE.

In chapter 11 of Nehemiah we read a long list of the names of Jewish people...

They were
📍the families who repopulated in Jerusalem... priests, Levites, gatekeepers, and temple servants. (11:3-24)
📍the families who lived in the cities of Benjamin and Judah.(11:25-36)

Lesson for us to learn;

We must we willing to live wherever God wants us to be....

➖ When Nehemiah finished building the wall there were not many people living in the city.It was not well populated. (Nehemiah 7:4).

➖When the people returned from exile the walls were in ruins and it would have required a lot of work to restore the city.
➖Because Jerusalem was the the former capital the restored city would have been a major target for the enemies to attack

. . It was easier for them to settle in their own towns and villages scattered across the land.

▶But Nehemiah knew that the city had to be strong in order to defend itself from the enemies.

▶And if the worship in the temple was to be restored the city had to be well populated.

As 11:1says all the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem but the rest of them settled in their own towns.

▶So they decided to cast lots to pick out one out of ten people who would move toJerusalem(11:1)

▶Some volunteered to go even though they were not picked by lot (11:2.)

▶Those who lived in the towns encouraged all those who were willing to move to Jerusalem.

Those who moved had to leave had to do a great sacrifice.

▶The city was a place of considerable danger, when compared to the suburbs.
▶They had to leave their well established houses and lands

. Although it was inconvenient in some ways to move from the serene surrounding of the village to the city, these people were willing to live where God wanted them to live in order to fulfill His purpose.

Dear friends
where does God want us to live?

👀Let's view it from God"s perspective.

👀Whenever we look for a house to dwell, either to buy, or to take it for rent our general tendency is to see whether it is near to our working place or the children 's school or shops etc
.. Well and good...

. But let us also give thought as to whether there is a church nearby that would help us to grow spiritually and to serve the Lord effectively.
How far is it from the house that we consider to live?

Let this be the primary thought in making any move in our lives

When we honor God in all that we do, when we give Him the priority in everything, surely we will see the blessings that come from this on our lives.

God we don't deserve  Nehemiah 9

After Ezra read from the Book of the Law, Israelites with repentant heart confessed their sins and the wickedness of their fathers (v2)

During their confession they acknowledged who God is

➡ God is righteous and keeps promise (v8)

➡ God's laws, decrees and commands are just, right and good (v13)

➡ God is forgiving, gracious, compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love (v17)

➡ God gives victory to his people (v22)

➡ God delivers his people from oppression (v27)

➡ God keeps his covenant of love (v32)

➡ God is faithful though we are wrong (v33)

Learning from the Israelites we need to acknowledge God for what he is in our life too.

Sower may sleep but Seeds don't sleep

One who prays may forget but
One who hears doesn't forget

After the completion of walls of Jerusalem in 52 days some chosen Leaders, Priests, Levites, Temple servants and Gatekeepers became the new Residents of Jerusalem which was a privilege (Neh.10: 3)

but

I would rather be a Resident of the New Jerusalem than the New Resident of the old Jerusalem

Take a Break with Jesus

Day 96, 240 Days Bible Reading, Thursday, 23.1.20.

Understanding the Word should Produce Joy of the Lord...Nehemiah 8:10.

📖 Joy is the result of knowing something good. It is an inward attitude and is not affected by the outward circumstances. It is the fruit of the spirit. When the Israelites heard the Word and understood it they began to weep but they were reminded not to weep but to be joyful. In His Presence there is fullness of Joy, Psalm 16:11.

📖 Joy of the Lord will give us Strength which is the answer to Stress. The Israelites stood for hours to hear the word and to have it explained to them. They were deprived of the word for years until it was exposed to them by Ezra. The whole chapter 8 of Nehemiah, gives importance to the hearing and understanding the scriptures as a community. There was reverence to the word and celebration after the exposition of the word.

📖 Child of God, remember that, if hearing the word of God and understanding it does not produce joy in you, it is most likely that you are not going to be strong in your spiritual walk. Spend quality time with the word. Spend time in His Presence until you are overflowing with Joy to give you strength to do His will. How many times did you pick up the book that God wrote? We make all kinds of time for the words of men, and yet we are too busy to read the Word of God.

📖 Revival begins with a growing appetite toward God’s Word. The Israelites were hungry for the Word of God. They stood for several hours to hear it. At the comfort of our cosy chairs how much time do we put for reading the word? Get hungry for the word and be filled with unspeakable joy as understand and share with others... Amen 🙏

📖 Nehemiah Chapter 8
The Great Law--Reading Ceremony In today's reading portion , the people told Ezra to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses ( v 1 ). We know that Ezra came to Jerusalem from exile . Does it mean that he was the caretaker of the Ark of the Covenant ? Now if we trace out the relevant scriptures with special reference to the Book of the Law , we see God's hand in protecting His written Words.

📝 It was neglected for a period of 75 years and was lying in one of the dusty room in the temple. It was found when the temple was under renovation during the reign of king Josiah ✒ 2Chron 34:14
📝 King Josiah directed the levites to keep it in the temple ✒ 2Chron 35:3
📝 But Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judah and set fire 🔥 to the temple of the Lord, the royal palace... ✒ 2Kings 25:8-9

WHAT ABOUT THE BOOK OF THE LAW ❓
Was it burned down ❓
Let's look at God's intervention :
📝 Nebuchadnezzar carried all the ARTICLES from the temple of God to Babylon ✒ 2Chron 36:18 . He also carried the Jews in exile to Babylon ✒ 2Chron 36:20 ✅
It is quite possible that the Ark of the Covenant was also carried away to Babylon.
📝 King Artaxerxes knew that the Book of the Law was with Ezra ✒ Ezra 7:14
🎈 Today we have the complete Bible in our hands . Do we read / study / meditate upon it❓❓
🎈 The text further reveals that Ezra was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses because he had devoted himself to STUDY and OBSERVANCE of the Law of the Lord , and to TEACHING its decrees and laws in Israel ✒ Ezra 7:6,10
🎈 Ezra was commissioned to teach the Law ✒ Ezra 7:25,26
Here in Neh 8: 2 , Ezra - a good steward of the Book of the Law , brought the Book before the assembly :
🎈 Ezra read it aloud from daybreak till noon ( v 3 )
No need of sound system. Why ❓ Because all the people listened ATTENTIVELY to the Book of the Law 👂✅
🎈 Today we have a good sound system in the church but NO ATTENTIVE EARS. The mobile culture has defiled the sanctity of His Sanctuary. Internet , Facebook , WhatsApp messages , Games etc are active during sermon.
🎈 Ezra stood , opened the Book to read and the people also stood up ( v 4-5 )
🎈 Do we honor God's Word ❓
🎈 Ezra praised the Lord , all the people lifted their hands 🙌🏽 and responded Amen ! Amen !... and they WORSHIPED the Lord ( v 6 )
🎈 Hallelujah and Praise the Lord carries the same meaning. Now a days it becomes a fashion / practice to repeat both the words ( one after another ) . It carries a deeper meaning and should not used as lips service .

🎈 We have the foundation / beginning of Scriptures Reading , Studying ( GBS ) , Interpretation and Teaching so that the people could understand what was being read under Ezra's leadership ( v 7-8 )
🎈 We need to excel / devote in our PERSONAL BIBLE STUDY / GROUP BIBLE STUDY ( ".. teach and making it clear and giving g the meaning so that the people could understand.." v 8 ) to our fellow brethrens by following the three steps : Observation , Interpretation and Application.

🎈 Hear the Word , Respond and Rejoice what the Lord has done and beyond ( v 9-10 ) : When the people heard the Law, they began to WEEP and MOURN as they realised how far short they had fallen and how guilty they were before God.
🎈Nehemiah urged the people not to MOURN or WEEP , but rather to REJOICE and CELEBRATE because " the joy of the Lord is your strength ". This may be translated as : Joy in the Lord is your strength. 💪
🎈 People celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles ... their joy was very great ( v 13-17 )
🎈 Throughout the week Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God ( v 18 )

💕 Beloved , understanding the words of God is the gateway to understand God himself , leading us to self examining and repentance , and then to rejoice in the Lord always.

Glory to God🙏

Nehemiah 11 This chapter is full of very difficult names. Nehemiah made these long lists of the names who made possible the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the reestablishment of the worship of God there.

❓❓Why did Nehemiah recorded all these names in these 2 chapters?

These were real people with real stories who made a real difference.

In His ministry today, 🔥 Hundreds and thousands of people are serving and many are sacrificed their life to reach to people.

🔥 God really care about each and every one who really work for His ministry wholeheartedly.

In verse 1-2, we see that Nehemiah is trying to repopulating Jerusalem. Although the city wall has been rebuilt, Nehemiah discovered that he had a problem.

In verse 4 there are 2 list of names some from Judah and some from Benjamin, the two tribes that made up the Southern Kingdom of Judah.

468 “brave men” were the “descendants of Perez”, volunteered to live in the city.
Perez was one of the sons of Judah. Perez is regarded as one of the heroes of the nation. His descendants are called "the brave men of Perez."

The tribe of Benjamin is a small tribe 928 men were volunteered to live in the city.

👉Out of 1192 total priest, 822 of them "carried on work for the temple.
👉These were official priests and 242 who were set aside as "heads of families," and group of 128 men who are called, "brave warriors," Certain priests were also warriors.

👉Out of 284 Levites, Some were in charge of the outside work of the house of God," and others were “ musicians”. "They were accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets."
There was another group of "the gatekeepers" , 172 of them.

📍📍 God work the same among us today. We all are doing ministry in different ways. But we see that "ministry within the ministry."

🔥 Some are priests, 🔥 Some are gifted to teach, some are gifted to help others,
🔥 some are prayer warriors, some are musicians......................

🔥 All of us are gifted in one or other way to do God’s ministry.

🔥 Use our given talents!

📍 But the reality is that, we always have all sorts of excuses,
I don’t have time.
I don’t know what I would do.
I don’t have any special skills to contribute.
They don’t need me.

📍 Serving others can also be the best distraction from our own worries.

📍 Every labor done in love is remembered by God.

📍 Our final rewards will be determined by faithfulness, not public applause.
