Day 48 of 240 Days Bible Reading Group 3947 Chapter 6 to 8
IN THE SPIRIT
📯 But the Spirit of the LORD labash clothed, enveloped Gideon, and he sounded the trumpet, and the Abiezrites [Gideon’s clan] gathered to follow him. He sent messengers through all Manasseh, Asher, Zebulun & Napthali and they gathered as well. [Jdg 6:34-35]
Wow! The Spirit of the Lord imparted power & authority to the simple act of blowing the trumpet. Because the Spirit of the Lord was behind that action, the hearts of those who had been hiding in fear in caves were stirred to come out into the open… They were filled with courage to face the enemy.
📯 Christmas is the time to remember that God saw the toil & torment that sin-slaved Humanity was crushed with. In Christ God raised up the horn of salvation. [Rf Lk 1:69] In Christ, God has blown the shôphâr yôbêl, calling Humanity out of the caves of sin & depravity, out into His Kingdom of Light, that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us. [Rf Lk 1:71]
📯 Christ came to tear down the works of the enemy (i.e.: the powers of darkness), so that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve God without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days. [Rf 1 Jn 3:8, Luke 1:74-75]
📯 In Christ, God has proclaimed the Year of Jubilee – cancellation of debts, freedom from slavery to sin. God has proclaimed it, but it is of no use to us if we don’t hear the shôphâr yôbêl and respond to it.
🎁Gift-giving is associated with Christmas. Gifts are meant to be opened, valued & USED. On Christmas day, God gave the greatest gift one could ever receive – the Gift of Eternal Life, wrapped with His love, packaged in a tiny baby.
🏺 Hidden in this packaging is the All-wise, All-powerful, Ever present King of Kings, the Prince of Peace, the Lord of Glory, The One who is the Source [Alpha] & Completion [Omega] of all things. This amazing Gift of God transforms us. Through the Holy Spirit, Christ dwells in us, and we are hidden in Christ. We are made complete in Him.
🔥 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. [2Co 4:7]
🔥 In the darkest night, when we raise a Hallelujah and raise up Jesus the Light of the World, we see the enemy flee & scatter before the Light of HIS Glory.
Lord Jesus, help me. In the thick of battle, may YOUR light shine in me & through me. Anoint each & every one of us to blow the _shôphâr yôbêl of the Gospel to call people out of the “caves” into freedom & victory. May YOUR Kingdom come. Amen_
I AM THE MAJESTY
Once again the people of Israel sinned against the LORD, so he let the people of Midian rule them for seven years.
The Midianites were stronger than Israel, and the people of Israel hid from them in caves and other safe places in the hills.
Whenever the Israelites would plant their crops, the Midianites would come with the Amalekites and the desert tribes and attack them.
They would camp on the land and destroy the crops as far south as the area around Gaza. They would take all the sheep, cattle, and donkeys, and leave nothing for the Israelites to live on.
Then the people of Israel cried out to the LORD for help against the Midianites,
Then the LORD's angel came to the village of Ophrah and sat under the oak tree that belonged to Joash, a man of the clan of Abiezer. His son Gideon was threshing some wheat secretly in a wine press, so that the Midianites would not see him.
The LORD's angel appeared to him there and said , The LORD is with you, brave and mighty man!
Gideon said to him, **If I may ask, sir, why has all this happened to us if the LORD is with us? What happened to all the wonderful things that our fathers told us the LORD used to do---how he brought them out of Egypt? The LORD has abandoned us and left us to the mercy of the Midianites.
Then the LORD ordered him, Go with all your great strength and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I myself am sending you.
Gideon replied , But Lord, how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least important member of my family.
The LORD answered , You can do it because I will help you. You will crush the Midianites as easily as if they were only one man.
💫 God selected 300 men
That night the LORD commanded Gideon, *Get up and attack the camp; I am giving you victory over it.
After that, the Israelites said to Gideon, Be our ruler---you and your descendants after you. You have saved us from the Midianites.*
Gideon answered, *I will not be your ruler, nor will my son. The LORD will be your ruler.
So Midian was defeated by the Israelites and was no longer a threat. The land was at peace for forty years, until Gideon died.
After Gideon's death the people of Israel were unfaithful to God again and worshiped the Baals. They made Baal-of-the-Covenant their god,
"All glory and honour belongs to God alone"
