Day 56 of 240 Days Bible Reading Group 3947 Chapter 15 to 18

"TO OBEY IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE". 1.Samuel 15:22.

Amalekites attacked Israelites without any reason as they traveled from Egypt to Canaan.(Exodus.17:8-16) Though it happened some 400 years earlier, God wanted to keep His word and destroy them completely.

As per God's command, Samuel asked Saul to "Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them...." (1 Sam.15:3.)

"But Saul and the army spared Agag and the best of the sheep and cattle .... everything that was good. (1.Sam.15:9.)

Then the word of the Lord came to Samuel "I am grieved that I have made Saul as King."(1 Sam.15:10).

"Then he set up a monument in his honour..." (1.Sam.15:12) Saul was interested to make a name for himself rather than glorifying the Lord who made him a King.

Prophet Samuel confronted Saul and asked him "What then is this bleating of sheep in my ears? What is the lowing of the cattle that I hear? (1 Sam.15:14)

Saul tried to put the blame on soldiers and was trying to justify that it is for sacrifice.
"The soldiers...spared the best of the sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the Lord your God...." (1.Sam.15:15)

Samuel questioned him "Why did you not obey the Lord? Why did you pounce on the plunder and do evil in the eyes of the Lord?" (1.Sam.15:19) Samuel declared "Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has rejected you as King."(1.Sam.15:23)

Are we obeying God in everything?

Is God grieved about us in anything?

Are we trying to justify our mistakes?

Are we interested in getting glory for ourselves or to glorify God in everything?

Saul said to Samuel I have sinned.......I was afraid of the people and so I gave in to them 1 Sam 15:24
God had told Saul to kill all the Amalekites and their animals but he spared some of the good sheep and their king.when Samuel confronted Saul with his failure ,he blamed the people for sharing the good sheep and justified it by saying that people wanted to save them for sacrifice.to the lord.

Saul modified God's command. Then he confessed his sin accompanied by some excuses.one who is more concerned with his standing with the people and the elders than obedience to God cannot be a leader.one who cannot take the blame for his sin is unfit to be a leader.God evaluates us by our attitude to the smallest commandment.Jesus says "Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so the same will be called the least in the kingdom of heaven but whosoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven Matt 5:19

So God rejected Saul as king
Lord ,help us to obey You fully with fear and teach others too to fearfully obey You.

On whom or in what lies our trust?

You come against me with sword and spear and javelin but I come against you in THE NAME OF THE LORD ALMIGHTY, THE GOD OF THE ARMIES of Israel whom you have defiled.

THIS DAY the Lord will hand you over to me and I will strike you down and cut off your head1 Samuel 17: 46

How could the young David talk so courageously standing in front of the huge giant?

How could he be so confident of his victory even before the battle began?

🌿Because he knew that the victory does not reside in spears or swords or shields or bows but in the mighty power of the Lord.

🌿 David's trust was not in the army but his trust was in the Lord Almighty. He was sure that the same God who had protected him earlier from the lion and the bear was there with him as he faced the uncircumcised Philistine giant and would grant victory.

🌿 He also had the confidence that he would not die as he was anointed by the Lord to sit on the throne of Israel.

We too face giants in our lives time to time.... giants of fear, anxiety, financial breakdown, diseases and so on.

Our trials may be huge as the Philistine giant Goliath that David faced

or they may be scorching as the fiery furnace that the the three Jewish youth faced

or they may be as fearsome as the roaring lions that Daniel faced..
.
✳ Whatever it is let us remember that God allows such giants in our lives not to destroy us or to threaten us. But to give us victory

. ✳These giants are there in our life as part of God's eternal plan - to make us grow stronger in our faith.

Dear friends, where is our trust as we face the giants in our lives?

Is it in people, or in self or in our bank balance?

All these will fail but God never fails.
Yes. He never fails those who put their trust in Him. He is a God of power, a God of glory..
He gives us victory through Jesus Chrit our Lord. In Him we are more than conquerers AMEN
