Day 68 of 240 Days Bible Reading Group 3947 Chapter 9 to 11
🍇 Simple thoughts for
The meditation is based on the whole chapter: 11
As seen in the previous chapters, Solomon started well. But now his downfall begins. Let us look into some of the reasons:
⚡ No doubt, Solomon was wise, but not wise enough to recognize the wiles of the Devil. He was not ignorant of God's Law and His commandments. But love for power, success and sensual pleasures blinded his eyes and hardened his heart. In violation of God's clear instructions, he married foreigners ( Deutro:7:3-4) His heart was not perfect towards the Lord. (1 Kings: 11:4)
⚡ The builder of God's temple built temples for the heathen gods. Being influenced by his wives he worshiped idols and sinned
against God. Disobedience destroys. Solomon the wise preacher who preached to others could not practice, what he preached. The same can happen to us too.
⚡ God loved Solomon. But Solomon deviated from the truth and engrossed himself in self-indulgence and Luxurious living, defying
the commandments. God gave opportunity to Solomon to repent. But he was inattentive and careless. He never tried to mend his ways and to return back,
⚡ When Solomon dishonoured God,God raised others to execute His plan and purpose for Israel. God chose Jeroboam one of Solomon's trusted officers to become the king over the ten tribes of Israel.. Solomon was not there when the nation was divided
but he became the cause for the division.
🔥 Today also, people or situations may prompt us to shift our loyalty away from God and His truth. If you feel pressured to enter a dangerous intersection of beliefs, study God's word, put on his armor, and ask the Holy Spirit for help.

SOLOMON , AS SEEN BY THE QUEEN OF SHEBA .
1 KINGS 10 : 4 -9 . Here we see that the queen of Sheba said ,
1 . Your wisdom and prosperity exceeds the fame which l heard .
2 . Your men or people are happy ( blessed )
3 . Your servants , who stand before you are blessed .
But we have a greater person , who is greater than Solomon . He is our Lord Jesus Christ . Mathew 12 : 42 .
Not even Solomon in his splendor was not dressed like the grass of the field . Mathew 6 : 29 .So He told us not to worry at all .
Yes , we are the blessed one who made Lord Jesus as our God .
In Him ,there are hidden wisdom and knowledge . Colossians 2 : 3 .
The people praised God ,who gave wisdom to Solomon . Yes , let us also praise God ,who gave us the wisdom to know and understand Jesus, who is the wisdom . May God bless us according to the above words . Amen . Hallelujah .

QUEEN OF SHEBA
1 Kings 10. 1- 13
· 💐She came from afar..from a distant land to see Solomon's wisdom and his great csplendor.
The place from which she came was probably the modern day Yemen
💐She came with gifts to offer.
💐·She came to test Solomon's 'wisdom by asking him difficult riddles and questions
·💐 She came and saw the riches of the king.
· 💐She came for an extended period.
💐She went back saying that what she saw was much more than what she heard.
💐She praised the Lord of Solomon for the wisdom and blessings He had bestowed on him.
Jesus used the Queen of Sheba as an example of a seeker:
"The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here" (Matthew 12:42).
If the Queen of Sheba sought Solomon and the splendor of his kingdom so diligently, how much more should people today seek Jesus, the one who is greater than Solomon, and the glory of His Kingdom.
Compromising with God - 1 Kings 11:2
Yet Solomon clung to these in love
Solomon was a person who was blessed so much by the Lord, that there was no one who could compare to him. He had peace in his days and much prosperity. It is quite possible that Solomon saw this pleasure of the world and slipped to his own downfall. The biggest distraction was that he loved foreign women of whom the Lord said not to associate with.
The word of God says that he (defiantly) clung to these in love. This means that somewhere in Solomon’s heart / mind, he still held on to the love of the world than to what the Lord said and so thought that it was OK to do what he was doing.
Dear brethren, today’s reading is an eye opener, for all of us.
- Do we still follow God but hold on to what draws us away from Him.
- Are we still friends of the world and compromise His teachings?
- Do we still say that, “It is OK to act like the world (telling lies, bribing, etc). God understands”
Jesus warns us about this, when he says,
- That many will come in that day saying, “Lord we healed people, drove out demons in your name and did great things”. But God will tell them, “ Get away from me for I do not know you! ”.
- Not all who say “Lord! Lord!” will enter the kingdom of heaven but only those who do the will of my Father.
The word of God says very clearly in James 1:22, “Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves”.
James 4:4 further says, “anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
God has come to give us life in abundance. It is the evil one that comes to steal kill and destroy. Jesus by being born among us, tells us that it was a very important step that He took to come down to earth. He came to show us the way to the Father by telling us what is right and wrong. He proved what He was saying about sin was right by dying on the cross for us so that we may be free from sin. But if we still think that we are better off than what Jesus told us and compromise with the Lord’s ways, then our worship is useless. "These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” (Matthew 15:8)
If today, you have heard the Holy Spirit speak to you, beg of Him to turn your heart towards Him and lead you on the right way; stand up for what is right and reject what is wrong.

I feel urged to write this after I heard the sermon from my pastor last Sunday. I feel it is important for us to know this, as we have undertaken to read the Written Word of God in the 240 Bible Reading Programme.
Reading the assigned portion is not the main thing, but God speaking to you through it is the most important thing.
God's Word consist of :
Logos - the written word (the Bible, stone tablets etc.)
Rhema - The spoken word.
We are so lucky to be able to hold the Bible (Logos) in our hand. Without the written word, we will not know who our God is, what He has done for us or that He is with us always. We are also able to read the wonderful ways in which He led people, provided for them, gave them the promised land etc. The Bible is one way God communicates through the written word. If we rely just only reading the scripture, it is like a one way communication.
Rhema on the other hand, is God speaking to us through His written word. We can experience Him in a more personal way. Each day, as we begin to read God's word, we should desire that He speaks to us. At the end of the reading I urge you to write a small note either just for yourself or you could share it with the group to encourage others, as to what the Rhema (God speaking to you) was for you that day. Not only does He speak to us while reading, He speaks while we pray, sing, worship and thank Him.
Our God speaks to us ALL the time. When we are in difficulty or seek Him while we are troubled, lonely, confused, God puts scripture verses we have stored in our hearts. These edify us, and helps us take right decisions or help us stand up. They give us hope and tell us that He is in control! "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6&7
Often He uses these words to build us up and live a life so that we are worthy to be called His child.
If we wonder how the Old Testament children of God managed without Rhema, God did speak to them in an audible voice — Moses in the cloud and burning bush, Joseph through dreams, David through prophets .... These are just a few examples.
So the point I'm trying to make is, just reading through the Bible is NOT going to help us in any way. We need to ask God to speak to us each time we read his word. Otherwise, it's just going to be a one way communication. It will be like having an important person at home and only communicating to us through letters. Pray and ask God to speak, just like little Samuel said "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening." I Samuel 3:10
Finally, I close with God's Rhema words to Paul in the book of
2 Corinthians 12:9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness".
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives, all fear is gone.
Because I know, I know He holds my future,
And life is worth the living, just because He lives!
👑We read in the book of Kings how David gave charge to Solomon his son, when it was time for David to die I Kings 2.
👑King Solomon asks for wisdom, and how God was pleased because he didn't ask for riches or long life or for the death of his enemies, and God gave him a wise and discerning heart, so that there will have never been anyone like him, nor will there anyone be. I Kings 3
👑We read how Solomon builds the Temple of God I Kings 6
👑 Solomon's Palace being built in such a lavish manner and so we see prosperity. I Kings 7
And today we read how....
👑God appears to Solomon a second time and says "walk before me in integrity of heart and uprightness like David your father. Observe my decrees and laws and I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever... " I Kings 9
👑 We read how his fame reaches far and wide, and the Queen of Sheba who has heard so much about King Solomon wants to come and see the palace because she didn't want to believe without seeing with her own eyes. She goes on to say "Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you........
👑Then from v14 we read how he accumulated so much gold, silver, chariots, horses (imported from Egypt). I Kings 10
👑Solomon's wives: the Bible says he loved many foreign women ; 700 by royal birth and 300 concubines. Women the Lord had already warned, that they 'will surely turn his heart after other gods.'
👑We read in V9 "The Lord became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord......." I Kings 11
GOING BACK to the book of Deuteronomy 17: 16, Moses gives clear instructions about what kind of King should rule over Israel.
👑"the king must not aquire great number of horses for himself,
👑or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them.....
👑a king must not take many wives or his heart will be led astray.
👑He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold..... and
👑if he keeps these decrees, that king and his descendants will rule for a long time, was the promise God gave them.
👑Solomon failed to keep the laws. We will be reading in the next few chapters how God tears down the kingdom after King Solomon's death.
All Praise to God!
"WRONG CHOICES and SMALL COMPROMISES IN LIFE..."
God blessed King Solomon, King of Israel with wisdom, knowledge, riches and honour and there was nobody like him in the whole world in all those areas.(1 Kings.3:12,13) He made wrong choices or compromises in his life, which led to his destruction and the destruction of his generations. Because of that, Israel went through untold problems which we can read in the coming chapters of 1 & 2 Kings.
The first commandment which God gave to Israel was "You should have no other gods before me." Exodus 20:3.
Even before giving a King to Israel, God gave clear instructions about Kings. "He must not take many wives or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold." Deuteronomy.17:17.
"You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods." 1Kings.11:2. King Solomon knew all these but....
"King Solomon, however loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh's daughter- Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites." 1 Kings.11:1.
"He had 700 wives of royal birth and 300 concubines and his wives led him astray".(11:3)
"His wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God."(11:4)
"...burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods."(11:8)
"So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord."(11:9)
"The Lord became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord"(1 Kings.11:9) The God who blessed Solomon got very angry with him and punished him and his generations.
How is our life today? We don't have many wives or husbands but Who are the people very close to us and influencing our life and the life of our children?
Are we making some wrong choices or compromises for the sake of money, name ,fame and pleasures?
What is the role for JESUS in our decision making?
Holiness with godliness
1 Kings 11: 3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.
Wives speaks of worldliness.
King means anointed child of God.
Worldliness means fashions,lusts, adulteries,pride of life (Jam4:4, 1Jn2:16)
As godliness diminishes the worldliness take its toll in a person's life.
A king should not multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold. (Deut 17: 17)
King Solomon gathered so much of gold and silver and married strange women. This turned away his heart from God. He did wickedness in the sight of God. Because of his sins the children of God are divided into 2 parts, Judah and Israel.
The present world which we are living is full of wickedness, filth, defilement and ungodliness.
Even though the sea is full of salt, the fish inside the sea is not salty.
Even though the pond is full of water, lotus will separate itself from the water.
Similarly we have to go into the world for our daily survival. We should keep ourselves holy.
In this modern generation as technology has predominantly taken its shape,it is not necessary for a person to go out into the world to defile himself. The world itself is in his hands. Now the pleasure of sin is much closer than before.
We have to be sober and be vigilant always.
In order to overcome the worldliness we have to read and memorize the word of God more. We have to renew our anointing.
We have come to the last days of this year. Let us leave all the worldliness and enter into the new year with newness of life.
